Staying active in the cold months

Staying Active in the cold Months

The weather is changing; there is now a chill in the air that bites back when you open that door.  Sending the kids outside to play may not sound so enjoyable anymore, so how do we keep these kids from curling up on the couch with the remote control or their phone in their hand?  All summer they have been outside, running, playing, and swimming just being active and now because the cold weather is upon us it has to stop or does it?????

As a parent it’s our job to encourage being active, but how do we do this when we ourselves don’t want to go outside in the cold?  It’s plain and simple… suck it up its for your children. What better way to teach your child about anything in life then by leading by example. So grab those winter parkas, wooly socks, grandma knit toques and mittens and get outside, it’s Canada eh?

Outdoor Activities

*Tobogganing (don’t kid yourself running up and down those huge hills are a great workout)

* Snow shoeing ( don’t have snow shoes ?? no worries bundle up and go for a nature hike in the forest, look for animal prints take pictures and go home and look them up see what animal they belong too.

* Skating (in case you haven’t had enough as a hockey parent) tons of outdoor rinks fully equipped with Coffee and hot chocolate.

*Building a snow fort (best investment I made was buying warm snow pants and boots) I can stay outside all day with the kids.

*Shovel (this is a win win situation) everyone is involved, driveway gets cleaned, a few snowballs thrown and everyone is together outside.

** The options are as many as you want them to be, remember you are a family and the best memories are made by being that… a family. Go outside and have fun. Stay fit stay Healthy.
